TALES FROM THE LAKE HOUSE
Based on the recognition of the installations of the cultural centre Casa del Lago and its surroundings in the Bosque de Chapultepec, the artist was commissioned to develop a piece that consists of designing a performative walk through the space to trigger a reflection in the visitors based on the stories that are told about this place and the memories of those who inhabit these emblematic spaces in Mexico City. A political, artistic and social gaze that invites us to reflect on how we inhabit this space, how we perceive the passing of time in these spaces and finally how this becomes a body. A political, artistic and social gaze that invites us to reflect on how we inhabit the space, how we perceive the passage of time in these spaces and finally how this is embodied. What stories run through the Bosque de Chapultepec? Through the Casa del Lago? A foreign intervention? A writers' seedbed? A space for interdiscipline? Or a Sunday family outing? Travelling through and inhabiting the spaces that surround us invites us to rediscover them beyond our everyday life. We are constantly making memories of places through our bodies, but rarely do we stop to discover other ways of seeing, ways of perceiving the corners, to walk, to transit, to extend time, to let things take us, to find discoveries or detonate the imagination. The site-specific performance proposal by the choreographer, performer and architect Esther Rodríguez-Barbero, proposes to explore and play with the possibilities of space, movement, bodies and voices that emerge from a lake we all think we know.
